Completly agree that we need to make sure apartments are up to code, living standards, etc. I fail to see how this registry does anything to improve that and ill lean on the Gage street tragedy in this article as an example. The article states the building had multiple code violations, yet nothing was ever done by the city to enforce those infractions. We have numerous avenues to cite violations and we dont need another one via a rental registry. If you really want to make housing improvements you need to improve the process for enforcing violations. Nothing will change by adding a burden to property owners that follow the rules already.

If any city councilors on here . please understand we are drowning in fees and new votes on stuff. I can’t afford to pay. i will have to go up in rents and probably have to sell to people that are coming to invest. not to live. enough please.

Let’s keep taxing. people can’t afford to live in worcester. i keep getting increased. everyone is property rich money poor. tenants rents out of control. i can’t keep footing the bill for them. i have no choice but to go up in rents. i pay one apartment rent to the city and for taxes and water and sewer ea month never mind the mortgage and insurance. Time to clean house at city hall.

Everyone wants to keep complaining about rent prices and at every corner the city is adding more new taxes and increasing tax bills.

And how about the fact that city after city Courts have found forced inspections to be unconstitutional? You can’t just force your way into a private property. Insane.

As a renter I say keep the late fees as initially proposed. This information can save lives, and noncompliance _should_ be punished severely. Lives are at stake.

To the other commenter complaining about the fees? It's between $5-25 a year per property. That's peanuts. If that much is going to break your finances maybe you're in the wrong line of work.

Does this apply to owner occupied as well? I read that initially it was for non owner occupied.

If there is a rental unit as part of owner-occupied property, yes.

We do not have a rental property but received a request in the mail from the city to register. We did not register since we don’t rent. Will we get fined for not registering?

Thank you for the question. You are not required to register property that is not being rented, but you are more than welcome to use the free non-rental registration so that your contact information is on file in the case of any issues or emergencies. You will not be fined unless it is later found to be used as a rental property.

You can’t fine people for renting. Maybe go read some court cases. I can’t believe no one looked into the legality of this before they thought they would just walk into peoples homes. There are wide sweeping cases that show you cannot fine nor force entry into a private residence. I will not consent to this unconditional ordinances and my tenants have said the same. I know at least a dozen landlords who are preparing for legal action if the city cannot clearly see how illegal this is. There has to be an opt out option for people that do not agree to these illegal searches.
